biltmore tree raising
the need
The raising of the Biltmore House Christmas Tree beautifully combines tradition with a touch of childlike wonder as the tree is delivered by Santa himself. The concept was to show the journey to the house from the tree’s perspective as it is carried along the drive by horse-drawn cart; is then carried into the house by the Biltmore’s staff and finally hoisted into position in the dining room.
The challenge
The delivery of the tree is an annual event, and it is a very popular tourist attraction; so the challenge was to successfully film the proceedings without marring the experience of the audience. Using highly portable and extremely small go-pro cameras attached to the tree itself we filmed timelapse footage of the carriage ride, and used a video camera to capture longshots as well as the crowd’s reaction.
